Big Weekend at the Guild — You Won’t Want to Miss This!

Opening Reception — Friday, April 3, 4–7pm Join us for the opening of our annual Guild Members Art Show at the GCAG Studio, 307 N. Texas. This is the first full-size show we’ve held in this space, and we have to say — it looks very, VERY good. With work from 50 members spanning a wonderful range of mediums, sizes, and styles, there’s truly something for everyone.
The show continues over two weekends: April 4–5 & April 10–12, 10am–5pm. Come once or come back twice!
Weekend at the Galleries (WAG) — 28th Annual!
This weekend also kicks off the 28th Annual Weekend at the Galleries. Both our Gallery and Studio are participating WAG locations, with a full lineup of events.

At the Studio (Yankie and Texas):
- Saturday, April 5 at 1pm — Spinning demonstration with regionally known textile artist Donna Foley. Donna will demonstrate on a variety of spinning wheels and spindles using different fibers. Fascinating to watch!
- Sunday, April 6 at 1pm — Artist talk with woodcarver/biologist/educator Mark Cantrell, titled “What Can Trees Teach Us About Art?” Mark will explore how tree growth shapes his sculptural choices and influences narrative through shape, line, geometry, composition, and texture. Stick around after — Mark will have videos, examples of his work, and favorite tools on hand for a casual conversation until 4pm.
At the Gallery (Bullard):
- Friday, April 4, 4–7pm — First Friday Art Walk Reception
- Saturday, April 5 — Demos All Day!
- 10am–Noon — Les Brandt demos dip pens with watercolor wash, plus a deep dive into inks (including which ones you can and can’t use in a fountain pen — good to know!).
- Noon–2pm — Katie LaMarre demonstrates alcohol inks. Katie’s alcohol ink work has been a crowd favorite at recent shows, and now’s your chance to learn more about this captivating medium.
- 2–4pm — Eric Ockerhausen demonstrates the art of tying fishing flies, from simple patterns to jaw-dropping complex ones. Eric also heads WILL’s Fishing Enthusiasts group, so bring your fishing questions too!
A Heartfelt Thank You
None of this happens without our incredible volunteers. A huge thank you to:
- Anita McDaniel & Vicki Gadberry for installing the show and managing art drop-off
- Gay Scheibl & Mona Prater for jurying the show and also working art drop-off
- Marsha Banas for designing the show posters and ads — and for bearing with all the fiddly back-and-forth to get every detail just right. You are a peach, Marsha! 🍑
- Eric Ockerhausen (yes, him again!) for all the work he’s putting into the reception food
Coming Up This Summer
Our next open-call show will be Creatures of the Gila, opening Labor Day Weekend. More details coming by early summer — stay tuned!
We hope to see you this weekend. Come say hello! 🎨
